Sculptures

I’m a firm believer in the human ability to create. It’s what we do that other species cannot. The product of creativity is what makes life on Earth bearable. I also believe we can ALL be artists. It’s that “left brain vs right brain” thing.

My dear friend Penny Hamilton, alav ha-shalom, is the first person who suggested I use clay molding for stress relief. Penny was a great artist on many levels, while I knew nothing about visual art except what I’d seen in museums and had always been drawn to the sculpture gardens.

Ertha’s eyes are closed because I had no clue as to how to make eyes on a sculptured face. She has no ears for the same reason. Most of my sculptured heads have a head or hair cover because I never got good at ears. The eyes got better as time went on.

Most of the sculptures I gave away or sold ~ I regret that I didn’t keep. Such is not the case with this one. I created her for two of my very dear friends from my years in San Francisco, and they’ve been her guardian ever since. They’ve taken such good care of her and, at my request, sent these two shots for me to share with you here on the website. Thank you, Jill and Bonnie.
